About Oncology Massage

Specialist Cancer Massage

It used to be a wide belief, and still is to a certain degree that massage 'spreads' cancer. This is by stimulating the lymph flow of the body.

If this were true, everybody with cancer should not exercise, walk or move for that matter!

Your lymph system is constantly working with every move you make, so massage for you own physical and mental health isn't going to make a dent on what your body does day-to-day anyway!

Cancer is spread by a complex biochemical process orchestrated by genetic mutations in a cell's DNA.  So massage won't make a difference at all! Apart from helping you relax, help with aches and pains during and after treatment and taking care of you.

Doctors Note

Unfortunately, most establishments will gasp when you tick the cancer box on your consultation form, there will be a scurry of panicked therapists and either you'll be made to sign a declaration form or they will turn you away and ask for a doctors note.

Not exactly the best start to what should be a nice relaxing treat.

Fortunately, therapists trained within the Amethyst Trust's guidelines do not need a doctors note to conduct treatment.  We are fully insured and qualified to treat you at whatever stage in your cancer journey.

Positioning

Many people ask about how they are positioned with oncology massage. The answer is wherever you are comfortable!

For example, if you've had a mastectomy, lying on your front could be painful or lying flat on your back - for this we could position you on your side or sat down just leaning over the bed.

I have a variety of pillows and bolsters to make you the most comfortable while we work.
